Hungary ETIAS for citizens of Israel

The Hungarian Embassy in Israel is pleased to announce that from March 25, 2018 onward, Hungarian nationals will be able to use the Electronic Travel Authorization ( ETIAS ) system for air travel to and from Hungary.

This new ETIAS system will speed up the process of obtaining an electronic visa for visitors from countries that are part of the Schengen Agreement.

The ETIAS replaces the old visa requirements* and offers greater security by providing a digital entry record that can be checked against existing security databases. It also allows for streamlined identification checks at airports and border crossings.

Things To Consider Before Coming To Hungary

Things to consider before coming to Hungary:

  • Hungarian law requires all foreigners in possession of an ETIAS (Extranet for International Travel and Arrivals) card to register with the Police National Computer System (PNCS).
  • All foreigners in Hungary must have a valid travel passport that is not stamped with a travel ban or visa restriction.
  • Visas are not required for citizens of most countries, but you may need a valid visa if you intend to stay for more than 90 days.
  • You must carry your passport with you at all times.
  • If you are staying in Hungary for more than six months, you must register your presence with the Police National Computer System (PNCS).

What is the ETIAS visa process in Hungary?

The ETIAS visa process in Hungary involves submitting an online application and paying a processing fee. After completing the online application, you will need to submit your passport and other required documents to the nearest Hungarian Embassy or Consulate.

You will also need to provide documentary evidence of your citizenship (i.e. a copy of your passport, a valid visa, or a confirmation of birth certificate). Once your application is processed, you will receive an ETIAS invitation letter that contains further instructions. You must then travel to Hungary and present your ETIAS invitation letter at the immigration desk in order to obtain a visa.

Conclusion

As Hungary moves closer to the EU and more globalized, it has been prudent to develop an ETIAS in order to provide clear travel requirements for its citizens. The ETIAS would allow Hungarian citizens to travel freely within the EU and other participating countries without needing a visa. The ETIAS is currently in development, but is expected to be released in 2019.

Israel is also in the process of developing an ETIAS. Israel is a participant in the EU’s Visa liberalization program, which requires all member states to have an ETIAS ready for implementation by October 2018. Israel is also a signatory to the OECD’s Convention on Mutual recognition of professional qualifications, which will help make the application process for an ETIAS much smoother.

Both Hungary and Israel are moving forward with their ETIAS programs in order to create easier immigration procedures for their citizens and to further strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
