Italy ETIAS for citizens of Hong Kong

As of March 8, 2018, anyone flying into or out of Italy must declare any firearms in their possession if they are travelling to or from an airport in Italy. In addition, all travellers must also declare any currency or other assets worth €10,000 or more when departing from Italy.
Italian citizens living in Hong Kong who plan to travel to Italy should familiarize themselves with these new measures as they could have a significant impact on their travel plans.

Things To Consider Before Coming To Italy

There are a few things to consider before coming to Italy as an ETIAS holder.

First, keep in mind that only residents of Italy who hold a valid passport can travel to the country without a visa. Citizens of China, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan, as well as British citizens who are considered CEE/EEA nationals, do not need a visa to travel to Italy for up to 90 days.

Second, make sure your passport is valid for at least six months after your intended departure from Italy. If you are planning on staying longer than ninety days, you will need to apply for a residency permit.

Third, remember that you will need proof of funds when traveling to Italy. This means you will likely want to bring enough money to cover your expenses for at least three weeks, as well as any applicable tourist taxes.

Fourth, be aware that Italian law prohibits people under the age of eighteen from traveling without parental consent or a judicial waiver. If you are under the age of eighteen and wish to travel by yourself, you will likely need to obtain permission from your parents or a guardian.

Finally, be sure to familiarize yourself with the Italian language before arriving in Italy. Although English is spoken in most tourist areas and many restaurants, basic phrases and words may still require some effort on your part to understand.

Italy ETIAS For Citizens Of Hong Kong – FAQ

There is now a new online application form for citizens of Hong Kong to apply for an ETIAS.

The application form can be found at the Italian embassy website. Applicants are required to provide their full name, date of birth, passport number and country of citizenship. Applicants may also need to provide other documentation such as proof of residence in Italy for at least 90 days within the past 12 months. After submitting the online application, applicants will receive a decision letter in about two weeks.

If the decision letter states that the applicant is qualified for an ETIAS, then applicants will then be required to submit additional documents including scanned copies of their identification documents, proof of travel insurance and bank statements showing funds available in Italy. Applicants will also need to pay a non-refundable fee of €60 (£53).

The ETIAS process can take up to six months or longer, so applicants are advised to plan their trip well in advance. Once issued an ETIAS, visitors will not be able to apply for a visa and should avoid travelling to any Italian territories before their ETIAS validation date. Importantly
