ETIAS (Borderless Travel for Citizens of the European Union) is a new system that allows Romanian citizens to travel to Guatemala without a visa. Romania became a member of the EU in 2007, so this new ETIAS program is a direct result of Romanian integration into the bloc.
The program was designed to make travel easier for citizens of EU countries and reduce the number of border crossings that citizens must undergo when travelling between countries within the union.
Romania joins Croatia, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Slovakia and Spain as the eight EU countries that allow their citizens to travel to Guatemala without a visa.
ETIAS is available to citizens of any country who are either:
- aminspiciuous travellers: People who have been awarded one or more “exceptional Nominal Awards” by the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). These awards are given to people who have made an outstanding contribution to international diplomacy or trade.
- European Union nationals: Anyone with a valid passport from an EU member state.
